2012 came and went….and it won’t be a year we will ever forget.
It was freezing cold on our first fundraising trip of the year from Cardiff to Dublin for the Six Nations Ireland Vs Wales rugby. It was an honour to be the only Welsh sailing yacht to be invited to be part of the Queen’s Jubilee in June. It was exhilarating to race from London to the Olympic Village of Portland. It was inspiring to spend time with the Clipper round-the-world fleet just before they left Derry-Londonderry. It was fun, entertaining, emotional and challenging taking part in our first Tall Ships Race (the Tall Ships Irish Sea Regatta from Dublin to Liverpool). We had our first intern opportunities and moved to our first permanent office. We remained an organisation run entirely by volunteers…without which nothing would happen! Yep, a lot happened in 2012.
We are hoping to have an exciting 2013. Round the Island Race, Cowes, and The Fastnet Race are two events that are going into the Challenge Wales melting pot. We plan as well to be visiting Bristol for the Bristol Harbour Festival, bringing Challenge Wales to new people who will be able to step onboard and learn more about her history and the youth work she does now. We will continue to deliver Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award residential opportunities and personal development voyages for others. We look forward to seeing our volunteer crew and meeting new volunteers along the way.
There’s never been a better time to get involved with Challenge Wales than now.
Happy New Year to you all.
