Yes, the Tall Ships are coming to town, in fact London Town….and Challenge Wales is excited to be a part of it, and if you think you need to be a young person to jump aboard Challenge Wales for this then think again.
What’s happened so far….As this blog is typed, Challenge Wales is on her way to London after racing from Falmouth. Sailed to Falmouth by visually impaired and blind young people, Challenge Wales then welcomed a new group of young people onboard for the Falmouth – London Regatta.
Challenge Wales doesn’t get to London all that often. In fact, we’ve only been there once before and that was when we were official invited to be part of the Queen’s Jubilee Pageant on the Thames in 2012!
Down wind conditions meant a good start, but then the light winds set in so took longer than expected to cross the finish line. Provisional results shows that Challenge Wales is 1st in Class, which is fantastic!
We are now cruising in company to London with young people onboard. Crew parades, crew parties, waving, cheering, meeting new people, making new friends will be the order of the day. But that is sail training for you which is what we are all about.
But, if you think you’ve missed out on Tall Ships and sailing on Challenge Wales as part of this spectacular event then think again!
Challenge Wales will be sailing from London to Gosport, as part of the spectacular Parade of Sail, she will then be sailing down the Thames before heading to the South Coast. Thousands will be waving us and the other tall ships off and it will be one of the most amazing opportunities in London and on the water this year. As many of our voyages are for young people and are age restricted, we’ve made this voyage an adult only trip giving those who want to experience sailing on a round-the-world yacht the perfect opportunity.
“Two day voyage from Milford to Cardiff via Lundy was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. As a solo traveller with zero sailing experience, I was made to feel totally welcome and learned lots with plenty of chances to join in with the crew. Such an adventure, I would urge anyone to get involved, you won’t regret it”
What better way to support a youth sailing charity…than by having fun and experiencing it yourself!
Challenge Wales will be on show in West India Dock, London from 05 September until she departs on 09 September. The voyage from London to Gosport will be from 09 – 13 September and those travelling to London can join us on 08 and depart on 14 September if required at no extra cost.
