Wales’ Tall Ship plans to head north in May!

Not long now until Wales’ Tall Ship, Challenge Wales will be sailing from Cardiff up to Pwllhelli, North Wales, as a feature boat at the All Wales Boat Show.

It’s been six years since Challenge Wales sailed into Pwllhelli, not long after the Challenge Wales charity got off the ground and we can’t wait to go back. Usually a North Wales visit means berthing in Holyhead so we are really excited to be in a different part of North Wales that is know for its fantastic sailing opportunities and it’s enabling us to bring Challenge Wales to new people!

The boat show runs from 8th – 10th May 2015 and visitors will be able to step onboard Challenge Wales, meet some of the charity’s volunteers and have a free guided tour of the ex-round-the-world yacht learning how she is now used for sail training and working with young people.

But, Challenge Wales will need to be sailed up to Pwllheli and she will be sailed from Milford to North Wales by 10 young people from Pen Llyn. Huge thanks to all the sponsors who are helping to fund the young people and Navsar.

Challenge Wales North Wales Boat Show
Before the boat show officially starts, group leaders and teachers who wish to visit Challenge Wales will be able to come onboard, appointments will need to be made via the Challenge Wales office, to learn how out-of-the-classroom learning can benefit young people. We’ll be in Pwllheli a few days before the start of the show arriving the 4th May.

For those visiting over the three days of the boat show (tickets to the boat show can be bought online or at the gate on the day), we encourage you to come aboard Challenge Wales and learn about her racing history and how she has now become Wales’ Tall Ship. If you are under 25 and looking at Gold Residential DofE opportunities then look no further.

Volunteers will be on hand to show you the ropes (literally), talk to you about voyages and their experiences, help you understand what life at sea is like and, if you’re over 18, talk to you about our volunteering opportunities. If you are a company and want to get more involved then we’ll be able to speak to you about some fantastic local ideas, enabling you to support young people in your local community.

But Challenge Wales isn’t just about young people, we need to help fund the charity and one of the best and fun ways of doing that is by getting adults to get involved and sail her, whether it is a delivery voyage or a race, like Round the Island Race. We’ll be looking for people to help sail her from Pwlhelli back to Cardiff. Perfect for experienced sailors or novices, aged 18 – 75!, and to celebrate our attendance at the boat show have a special boat show rate for this trip. If you are looking for a few days of sailing, that doesn’t break the bank then this is for you!

While at the boat show we’ll also be running a competition to WIN a Challenge Wales Big Boat Sailing Gift Voucher for two which can be used towards any of her voyages. So don’t forget to enter when you visit Challenge Wales!

So, remember the boat show dates of 8th – 10th May and we look forward to seeing you!
