It seems just like last week that Challenge Wales was racing around the Isle of Wight in Round the Island Race. Since then (and that’s June…which was when we last blogged!) we’ve sailed to Belfast to be part of the Tall Ships extravaganza, a glimpse of Challenge Wales was seen on the BBC’s The One Show, we’ve worked with lots of young carers, we helped young people achieve their Gold Residential section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we appeared on Made in Cardiff TV programme, we’ve started our volunteer training programme and recruiting new crew volunteers, we have been part of Bristol Harbour Festival and Cardiff Harbour Festival, seen lots of dolphins and seals and last week we moved office.
It’s been a busy year but we still have one more voyage to go.
Wrap up warm, feel free to wear Christmas jumpers and antlers…..as our fundraising Sail and Curry voyage is back! On Monday 28th December Challenge Wales will be heading out of her cosy berth in Penarth Marina for an exhilarating day of sailing. It’s the perfect opportunity to blow away the winter cobwebs but also a great way to support a local charity and have fun. If you are looking for an unusual Christmas present (for a sailor or non-sailor) then this could be it!
…and don’t worry, we have central heating onboard!
Challenge Wales sails with up to 18 people onboard; 12 guests and six Challenge Wales volunteer crew. The charity is run and managed by volunteers and anyone over 18 can volunteer regardless of their sailing experience. The Sail and Curry voyage is an annual fundraising to support the work of the Challenge Wales charity and the opportunities it brings to young people under 26 years.
