Volunteer positions

Challenge Wales crew are pivotal to the success of Challenge Wales and work with young people and adults on all of our voyages. If you are interested in helping Wales’ Tall Ship and volunteering for a young and innovative outdoor charity then Challenge Wales could be for you. Challenge Wales works in the world of sail training and helps young people to develop life skills to help improve their employment prospects.

People who volunteer for Challenge Wales are aged 18 – 75 and need to be able to commit several days a year for crew training PLUS day and residential voyages. We offer a fun time onboard, have some memorable adventures and above all a rewarding volunteering experience.

We are currently looking for volunteer crew with some sailing experience or youth work experience to help us deliver our sail training programme.

To become a volunteer crew person you need to have sailed onboard Challenge Wales on one of our adult voyages so that we can assess your skills and how you get on onboard. Following this you will have a shore-side volunteer induction and an Enhanced DBS. Should everything be successful you will be able to join the Challenge Wales team and book yourself onto crew training. All volunteer crew are required to complete a Volunteer Competency Log which can be completed as you undertake your voyages and crew training with us.
